The 6G-Cloud project has released a new article on Medium exploring how Artificial Intelligence is enabling self-healing capabilities in next-generation networks. Written by Dr. Jesús Pérez-Valero (Universidad de Murcia) and Dr. Sotiris Spantideas (FOUR DOT INFINITY), the piece presents a pioneering approach to building intelligent, energy-efficient and resilient 6G infrastructures.

From Reactive to Predictive: The Shift Towards Self-Healing Networks

The article introduces an AI-driven model that allows 6G networks to anticipate and prevent issues before they occur. Moving beyond traditional reactive management, this self-healing approach dynamically scales server resources based on real-time predictions, ensuring performance, reliability and energy savings.

The Intelligence Behind the Architecture

At the core of this approach lie three interoperable frameworks:

  • Management and Orchestration Framework (MOF), defining operational policies and service-level goals;
  • Cloud Continuum Framework (CCF), managing resources across central clouds and edge nodes; and
  • AI and Machine Learning Framework (AIMLF), providing predictive analytics and anomaly detection.

Together, these components form a closed-loop control system that monitors, predicts, analyses, acts and learns — continually improving network intelligence and efficiency.

Proven Efficiency Through AI-Driven Control

Simulation tests based on real-world data demonstrated how the proactive, adaptive AI model significantly reduced the number of active servers without compromising performance. This translated into notable power savings, showing that intelligent orchestration can boost both operational and environmental sustainability.

Towards Federated, Sustainable 6G Networks

Looking ahead, the research explores the integration of Federated Learning to support privacy-preserving collaboration among multiple operators. This evolution will further enhance scalability, autonomy and efficiency — key pillars of the 6G-Cloud vision for a truly AI-native network ecosystem.
